Based on the best-selling series of video games, the movie follows the rebellious Lara Croft as she travels to a fabled tomb on a mythical island to uncover the mystery behind her father’s disappearance. The first trailer for “Tomb Raider” showed scenes of Alicia Vikander in action as the new adventurer Lara Croft. Warner Bros. has released a new “Tomb Raider” trailer that sheds more light on the survival skills Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander) will need through out the movie.
This new adaptation of the popular game will focus on a young, broke college student living in East London, whose life abruptly changes when she decides to seek out adventure by joining an archaeological mission to find a fabled tomb off the coast of Japan. It fleshes out the character’s backstory, as Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander) – boxer and bicyclist goes against the wishes of Ana Miller (Kristin Scott Thomas), an associate at Richard Croft’s company, Croft Holdings to search for her long-lost father (Dominic West).
That quest takes her to an island in the middle of the Devil’s Sea, where she clashes with the film’s villain, Mathias Vogel, a rival archaeologist of Richard Croft (Walton Goggins). He’s a member of a deadly organization known as Trinity that is seeking to set off a worldwide genocide.
The character of Lara Croft originated in a video game and was later played in two films by Angelina Jolie. This reboot with Alicia Vikander as Croft is meant to be a prequel to Angelina Jolie’s. Hence the trailer’s tagline, “Her Legend Begins.”

Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was scarcely a teen. Now a young woman of 21 without any real focus or purpose, Lara navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike courier, barely making the rent, and takes college courses, rarely making it to class. Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father’s global empire just as staunchly as she rejects the idea that he’s truly gone. Advised to face the facts and move forward after seven years without him, even Lara can’t understand what drives her to finally solve the puzzle of his mysterious death.
Going explicitly against his final wishes, she leaves everything she knows behind in search of her dad’s last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan. But her mission will not be an easy one; just reaching the island will be extremely treacherous. Suddenly, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Lara, who—against the odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit—must learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown. If she survives this perilous adventure, it could be the making of her, earning her the name tomb raider.
The trailer’s soundtrack is a cover of the Destiny’s Child hit “Survivor”.
“Tomb Raider” is set to hit theatres on March 16, 2018.
