2017: The Year of Movies!

2016 kickstarted with cool movies ranging from action movies like Deadpool, London has Fallen, Captain America: Civil War, X-Men: Apocalypse, to romantic comedies like Me Before You and The Dressmaker as well as animations like Kung Fu Panda 3 and Zootopia to name a few. There was no shortage of amazing plots and the perfect cast crew to deliver, either in funny bloopers to dead scary makeovers and amazing dialogues, 2016 proved to have kept movie junkies and cinema fans hooked to screens around the world. As 2017 rolls in with some already released amazing trailers to clips from on-site shoot scenes with movie sequels and remakes in the works, it is safe to say that this year will yet be another amazing year in film with great movies in the making and those yet to be released. Here are just a few highlights on what we can’t wait for in film for the year 2017:

SEQUELS:

2017 promises to be filled with a lot of sequels, with more than 20 sequels to be released throughout the year, cinema theatres are sure to get movie junkies and fans filing and trooping in for these. The Fast and Furious franchise will be back with their eighth installment of the Fast and Furious, Transformers’ Autobots and the evil Decepticons will be back to battle it again and the Pirates of the Carribean crew will all return during the first half of the year. Other sequels returning include War for the Planet of the Apes, Resident Evil: the Final Chapter, Underworld: Blood Wars, xXx 3: the return of Xander Cage, Fifty Shades Darker (who doesn’t love an alpha male with a dark past), Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2, Annabelle 2, Thor: Ragnarok, John Wick: Chapter 2 and of course the highly anticipated Star Wars: Episode VIII.

THE BATTLE OF THE SUPERHEROES:

This is my personal favourite. Year in and out, DC Extended Universe and Marvel Cinematic Universe never fail to wow fans and make us grip our seats with their comic characters and jaw dropping combat scenes to amazing dialogues between villains and heroes. That being said, 2017 will obviously be no different as MCU and DCEU will once again battle for superhero supremacy. In 2016, DC Entertainment delivered with Batman and Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad while Marvel Studios delivered with Deadpool, Xmen: Apocalypse and Captain America: Civil War. 2017 promises to even be better with DC’s launch of Wonder Woman and Justice League in June and November respectively. Marvel Cinematic Universe continues with a third installment of Thor (Ragnarok) and a second installment of Guardians of the Galaxy (Volume 2) and the possibly last comeback of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in the movie Logan. Sony and Marvel team up for a remake of Spiderman (with Tom Holland reprising the role of Peter Parker, the same role he played in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War). What’s not to love about 2017?

THE REMAKE TREND A.K.A REBOOTS:

This is my second favourite! Remember The Mummy? Jumanji? Power Rangers? (Go Go Power Rangers!), these are a few of the reboots that will grace our screens this year, with added plots to re-imagined takes on established movies and franchises. Past movies like Baywatch will also be remade/rebooted on screens worldwide. Dwayne Johnson (a.k.a. the rock) leads the cast of the new Baywatch feature film, a new Jumanji film which is set 20 years after the 1995 Robin Williams starred film will be released, expect to see an all new cast for the Power Rangers for all power rangers fans ( I, especially) and Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones) teams up with Ryan Gosling (The Notebook) in Blade Runner 2049. Universal Studios makes an all new attempt at establishing a classic “monsters” franchise with the launch of The Mummy (starring Tom Cruise) which will have a possibly different take than the 1999 film of the same name, these and more will be seen throughout the year.

So guys, what do you think?  What movies do you feel will garner a lot of attention this year? And what movie can you not wait to watch?
